The AirTag will now be set up with its own individual profile.

Note: You can only create individual AirTag profiles if you are running iOS 17 or later. If you are running an older version of iOS, you will not be able to create individual profiles and all of your AirTags will be grouped together under a single profile.

Note: You can also share AirTags with other people. When you share an AirTag, the other person will be able to see its location in the Find My app and they will also be able to receive notifications if the AirTag is moved. To share an AirTag, open the Find My app, tap the Items tab, and then tap the AirTag that you want to share. Tap Share and then select the people that you want to share the AirTag with.

To do this, open the Find My app on your Mac, click the Items tab, and then select the AirTag that you want to share. Click Share and then enter the Apple ID of the person you want to add as an owner.

Can only one person register an AirTag?

Yes, only one person can register an AirTag. When you first set up an AirTag, you will need to use your Apple ID to register it. Once an AirTag is registered to an Apple ID, it cannot be registered to any other Apple ID.

If you want to share an AirTag with someone else, you can transfer ownership of the AirTag to their Apple ID. To do this, you will need to go to the Find My app and tap on the AirTag that you want to transfer ownership of. Then, tap on "Details" and scroll down to the bottom of the screen. Tap on "Transfer Ownership" and follow the instructions.

Once the AirTag has been transferred to the other person's Apple ID, they will be able to track it using the Find My app.

Here are some reasons why Apple only allows one person to register an AirTag:

To protect people's privacy. If anyone could register an AirTag to their Apple ID, it could be used to track people without their consent.

To prevent AirTags from being used for illegal purposes. For example, AirTags could be used to track someone's movements without their knowledge.

To make it easier for people to find their lost AirTags. If only one person can register an AirTag, then it will be easier to identify the owner of the AirTag if it is found.

Impacts of AirTag Profiles

AirTag Profiles are a new feature that was introduced in iOS 17. They allow you to create individual profiles for each of your AirTags, so you can easily identify them and track them in the Find My app.

There are several impacts of AirTag Profiles:

Improved privacy: AirTag Profiles make it easier to keep your AirTags private. When you create a profile for an AirTag, you can choose whether or not to share its location with others. This can help to prevent your AirTags from being used to track you without your consent.

Improved usability: AirTag Profiles make it easier to track your AirTags. When you have multiple AirTags, it can be difficult to keep track of them all. With AirTag Profiles, you can easily identify each of your AirTags and see where they are located in the Find My app.

Improved security: AirTag Profiles make it more difficult for someone to track you with an AirTag without your knowledge. When you create a profile for an AirTag, it will emit a unique Bluetooth signal that can only be detected by other Apple devices. This makes it more difficult for someone to track your AirTag without your consent.

Overall, AirTag Profiles are a positive new feature that can help to improve the privacy, usability, and security of AirTags.

Here are some additional details about the impacts of AirTag Profiles:

Privacy: When you create an AirTag Profile, you can choose whether or not to share the AirTag's location with others. If you choose not to share the location, the AirTag will still be visible in the Find My app, but only to you. This can help to prevent your AirTags from being used to track you without your consent.

Usability: AirTag Profiles can make it easier to track your AirTags by making it easier to identify them. When you have multiple AirTags, it can be difficult to keep track of them all. With AirTag Profiles, you can easily identify each of your AirTags by the name and description that you have assigned to it.

Security: AirTag Profiles can make it more difficult for someone to track you with an AirTag without your knowledge. When you create an AirTag Profile, it will emit a unique Bluetooth signal that can only be detected by other Apple devices. This makes it more difficult for someone to track your AirTag without your consent.
